It’s been 17 years of immense positive contribution to the ever challenging terrain of the Gospel music Industry. Through it all, God has been faithful, showcasing His pre-eminence through the creative arts and ministry of the Midnight Crew. The quartet has been responsible to their call by maintaining high level of integrity to their flock, even while expanding their frontiers and breaking new grounds.

“It’s an amazing feeling to have contributed fairly well to an industry with challenges within and without. To have proven that groups consist of individuals who can stand on their own and still keep the integrity of the group. To have enjoyed so much of God on just one song. The Midnight Crew story makes sense,” the statement by the group reads.

The new singles, produced by Tyanx are expressive of the spirit and mood of the quartet as they celebrate their 17th anniversary, while they call on the rest of the Gospel community to join in the celebration.

The Urban Afro-style of “Congratulations” by Midnight Crew motivates festivity, although Midnight Crew channels the dance and eulogies to Jehovah, the source of His children’s testimonies. The song is somewhat prophetic as the Crew see every listener in the spotlight of celebration and believe all glory and praise will go to God. “Congratulations” is performed by the men of Midnight Crew, Olugbenga Oyebola and Mike Abdul. It is an invitation to the Midnight Crew’s festive demeanor.

Biography Of James Okon

James Uko Okon is my name. Originally from Nigeria but now based in Johannesburg, South Africa since 2001. After a four year degree program in History/International Relations and Education at the Lagos State University (LASU), between 1996 and 2000. I proceeded to South Africa to study at the Rhema Bible Training Centre.
After three years of study at the then RBTC, I obtained a certificate in Creative Ministries Major (Music), a diploma in Ministerial Training Major, A higher diploma in Ministerial Training Major, a diploma with the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music-London, by correspondence, and a certificate in Christian Counseling Major.

I worship with the Redeemed Christian Church of God as a member and as the Regional music director for Southern Africa 2 region covering seven countries in SADC.. I am also an ordained pastor with the same church.

As a professional musician and music minister, I have been privileged to minister and perform on grand stages of music festivals in Johannesburg, middelburg, Durban, Capetown, Port Elizabeth, East London and Limpopo including th MAKUFE festival in the Free State. I have also been privileged to perform at major gospel awards ceremonies e.g the SABC Crown Gospel Awards and the Trumpet Africa Gospel Awards ceremonies, as well as regular gospel concerts and day to day church and Christian religious functions across South Africa and across different continents.

I have collaborated and worked with numerous individual artists and groups, from known to unknown, up-coming to the very best in the industry in South Africa and beyond. A few of them would be, the Legendary Bishop Benjamin Dube (EH YAHWEH LIVE). Kora and Channel ‘O’ awards winning Jazz artist-Kunle Ayo (BABA RERE),Lufuno Mudau Buda, Armed for Harvest Worship team and Don Joseph Stephen – Jehovah turned my life around.

I have also been privileged to travel different continents with my band and share grand stages with international legends from different parts of the world including Dr. Ron Kenoly, Israel Houghton, Kirk Franklin, Martha Munizi, Andrea Crouch, Tasha Cobbs, VaShawn Michel, Jamaica”s Lester Lewis and est. and the very many and notable indigenous artists and music ministers within South Africa as a nation and the larger continent of Africa.

By God’s grace I have been on several local TV shows within South Africa, including IT’S GOSPEL TIMES, GOSPEL GOLD, GOSPEL CLASSICS, SUNRISE ON ETV, SHIFT, SPIRIT SUNDAE as well as severally on ONE GOSPEL, SOWETO TV and other satellite channels such as BET AFRICA, LOVE WORLD SAT, FAITH BROADCASTING NETWORK, TBN in AFRICA, RTM, DOVE MEDIA as well as major radio airwave in South Africa.
In addition to the regular interviews and pre-recorded religious debates, I was also a member of the panel of judges for the One Gospel’s Voice of One Choir Competition and a two time Crown Gospel Awards nominee. Apart from the several collaborations, I have three albums to my credit, the first being the Mighty God, released in 2007.

The second is Mambo Sawa-sawa while the latest is Greater Things, recorded live at the lyric theatre. My genre of gospel music cuts across nationalities and cultures, geographical precincts and tribes. It is such that both enhance the African (Ubuntu) values and unites all races and tongues together in worship and praise of our God. Music is my calling, it is a ministry, and it is also my business.

My social activism includes, speaking to young folks on healthy and godly moral rectitude, I give back to the communities by organizing musical workshops for free empowerment lessons and vocal coaching and music business etiquette. I am also a writer on music ministry lessons, a vocal coach and trainer in worship

Six-time Grammy Award Winner Bebe Winans’ single, “Laughter (Just Like A Medicine)” was released earlier this year as the follow-up to his number one hit, “He Promised Me”. The song also features a quartet of young Korean men known as Korean Soul, abbreviated as K.S.

On October 30, 2018, he released the official video to the song in an article on Billboard.com.
The video was shot in Seoul, Korea and features footage of Winans and K.S. recording the song and exploring the city.

The song is an uplifting tune that is perfect for the times, as it focuses on keeping a positive outlook despite what comes your way in life. It is also a sign that music is truly the universal language that can transcend culture, race, and custom and bring people together.

He was inspired to write the song after locking himself out of the house one day. While waiting in the garage for the locksmith, Winans stated, “Instead of becoming angry, I chose laughter, which made my situation easier to endure. There is a scripture [Proverbs 17:22] that says ‘A merry heart does good like a medicine.
’One definition for merry in the dictionary is ‘Laughingly happy.’ So the truth about laughter is that it’s a medicine that comes free to all of us.”

Bebe Winans was introduced to the young men of Korean Soul by his friend and fellow Gospel artist, Donald Lawrence. Winans recalls being “blown away” after Lawrence showed him an Instagram video of the young men singing.

“Initially Boyz II Men were going to be on the song [“Laughter”], but our schedules just wouldn’t allow it. Then one day it hit me, ‘What about the guys from Korea?’ We connected and agreed to partner in a production deal.”

‘Exalted’ by Glowreeyah Braimah was released as a single in March 2018. The video was shot at the picturesque Northala Fields and Oxford Street in England in late 2017.

The song was inspired by an everyday occurrence-a beautiful Sunset.

According to Glowreeyah;

“While I was driving one Saturday evening, I spontaneously started singing ‘Oh my soul, you must rise and see your God exalted’. A wave of ecstatic joy hit me on the spot. I parked my car and right in front of me, I saw the sun setting in the horizon. I got out of my car and lifted my hands out there in the parking lot of the mall.

“The revelation of the moment for me was simple. That sunset showed me that even though the sun in all its glory was going down that evening, it would surely be set to rise the following morning.

“I knew at that moment the purpose of the song.

“Our souls are the spark of God in us. Without the soul, our bodies are like light-bulbs without electricity; like computers without the software. And even when we have setting moments like the Sun, we must be able to rise again and again and again.

She started singing at the tender age of 10 at Church Of God Mission, Ughelli.
